Overview
The Workbook was created in 1978 because of a lost address book. Alexis Scott had just begun her career as an artists' agent for an advertisting photographer when she serendipitously found an opportunity to launch her own business: upon indavertently losing her address book, filled with the names and numbers of industry contacts, she realized its value to her and others in the advertisting, design and communications industries. With this idea in mind, Scott founded the Workbook, a directory of creative talent, on her kitchen table with an initial investment of $7,000. Today the Workbook has grown from a single product to a major resource with multiple products for the creative community.
Workbook, Inc. provides commercial artists - photographers, illustrators, designers and letterers - print and online vehicles with which to promote their assignment business via the Workbook and workbook.com. Workbook Phonebook and Workbook Lists maintain a stringently verified online database of over 55,000 contact names available for purchase through subscriptions or custom mailing lists. Workbook Fine Art offers work for sale or by commission from artists working in all media through "Framed Art for Spaces." The Workbook Stock imagery collection was sold to Jupiterimages in June 2006. The Workbook is headquartered in Los Angeles, California with additional offices in New York and Chicago.
